Comments and Conclusions

The arrival of the Lifts Regulations is considered to be the single most important change within the lift industry ever. Many Lift Companies are not yet geared up to operate satisfactorily within its scope, and many more do not appear to fully understand the possible implications of them.

Apart from some of the twists and turns mentioned in these pages, it is possible that more yet unseen questions are awaiting us. For example, assume a lift is installed with an emergency communication device or load weighing system. If the unit fails, it may not be detected for some time. If an emergency occurs, will the building owner or lift maintenance contractor be held responsible for not maintaining the required safety features?

In our opinion the Regulations have gone way over the top, and their rigid and complex nature makes what should be a relatively simple operation fraught with difficulties and possible financial catastrophe.

However, as with most things, in twelve months time we may all be wondering what the problem was. In the meantime, it is essential that this issue is given its due regard and all parties must work closely to ensure that full and proper information is exchanged and understood.

This website is presented in general terms and is a personal opinion. Any specific projects or situations should be assessed and examined in detail.
